As the recipient of the Essex North Shore Agricultural and Technical Environmental Scholarship, Nathan was presented his check tonight for one thousand dollars to help him as he attends Dartmouth College in September.

He will major in biology and environmental science. Nathan learned technical skills such as GPS mapping and plankton microscopy but found a strong interest in researching cognitive biases in relation to sustainability issues. His findings led him to enter the FFA Agriscience Fair and he was selected to speak as a “student showcase” in the Indianapolis National Expo Center. He also found ways to use art to bring environmentalism to the public. He edited an award-winning film for the Bow Seat Ocean Awareness Contest, displayed at the Peabody Museum. In his role with Raw Art Works (RAW) he designed and helped install a mural at the Ipswich River Watershed Association, highlighting the importance of local hydrology to visitors.

At GALA (art galleries of Lynn) where he resides, Nathan facilitated an exhibit called “Environmental Awakening”. Nathan also is an excellent student and was announced at the end of the awards night tonight that he was declared as his class year’s Valedictorian. Our President, Sandy Rubchinuk, was introduced as representing the Middleton Stream team and presented his certificate and check on stage. She said it was such an honor to present the award. Congratulations to Nathan.
