Anish Deshpande was the recipient of the Environmental Award that the Middleton Stream Team awards to a deserving senior student from Middleton every Spring. During a ceremony at the Earth Day Festival, Anish and his family accepted the award and a check for $1,000 in celebration of his amazing accomplishments and work towards creating a more sustainable future.

Anish was a group leader of the Walking Globe Geography Bee and Earth Science through the Tri-Town Council, teaching more than 100 hours of Geography and Earth Science classes and working more than 500 hours on research and creating content through his website and YouTube channel. He also led Tree Plenish, inspiring others to plant 40 sapling trees around Middleton.

As a senior at Masconomet, he was a research student at the Gloucester Marine Genomics Institute, participating in a STEM enrichment program at the Institute for biotechnology research on molecular biology techniques including DNA extractions, Polymerase Chain Reactions (PCR) and electrophoresis labs. Anish received the Small Town Hero Award for the year 2022 for promoting environmentalism across the Tri-Town. In 2022 he also participated in the Middleton Stream Team’s Earth Day Festival, leading the Walking Globe students. In the fall, Anish will be attending Stevens Institute of Technology with a major in Environmental and Electrical Engineering. We wish Anish great success. The Middleton Stream Team congratulates Anish for his fantastic work and can’t wait to see what he does in the future.
